A pH-driven genipin gelator to engineer decellularized extracellular matrix-based tissue adhesives

Decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) derived from natural ECM is receiving considerable interest as a promising component of tissue adhesives because its high biocompatibility and regenerative ability. However, the availability dECM adhesive limited lack gelator that can crosslink low concentrations to form hydrogels. Here, we report dECM-based using genipin gelator. Based on pH-dependent reactivity genipin, genipin-terminated 4 arm-poly(ethylene glycol) (GeniPEG) was synthesized. hydrogels were formed within few seconds mixing GeniPEG at an optimum pH through crosslinking self-crosslinking between molecules. The crosslinked with exhibited greater strength porcine-derived aorta than those genipin. Moreover, be applied various dECMs, including urinary bladder, heart, liver, pancreas, small intestine. In vivo implantation experiments demonstrated biodegradability dECM-GeniPEG Therefore, this hydrogel may extend possibility organ-specific contribute successful minimally invasive surgery.
